Art Jewelry Today (Hardcover)
by Dona Z. Meilach This book showcases an extensive collection of mixed media/art jewelry. It's better than most of the gallery style jewelry books on the market, and I own many. The pictures are gorgeous, you can see the details clearly with so many large photos included. I love the fact that it includes silver, gold, resin, enamel and other mixed media pieces including recycled materials. Some of my favorite artists include Thomas Mann, Cynthia Toops, Susan Sloan and David and Roberta Willamson; they as well as many other talented artists are featured in this book.

The Master Jewelers (Paperback)
by A. Kenneth Snowman (Editor) Many of the stunning pieces pictured here would be more at home in a museum than adorning mere mortals. These are consummate creations of 19th- and 20th-century designers who chose gems and metals above oils and canvas as their raw materials. In 15 chapters written by as many connoisseurs and scholars, the book considers the history and productivity of various legendary jewelry firms (e.g., Cartier) and master craftsmen in the decorative and applied arts. Whether drawing their inspiration from ancient Rome, the Renaissance or Asia, these undisputed artists often fashioned the fabulous: bejeweled distaffs and diadems; translucent cloisonne enamels; glittering Faberge eggs; a flexible collar of sapphires and diamonds, courtesy of Tiffany workmen, that was 1800 hours in the making. Snowman, head of the London jewelry house Wartski, presents a serious, glitteringly detailed and seductive look at incredible artifacts.

Their combined knowledge, thoughtful writing, and stunning pieces make for a one-of-a-kind volume that will aid both jewelers and collectors, and astonish anyone who loves jewelry.

Thomas Mann: Metal Artist (Hardcover)

Thomas Mann is a true modern master and this book details his life's work and inspiration from the past three decades. A World of Necklaces : Africa, Asia, Oceania, America (Hardcover)
by Anne Leurquin A World of Necklaces-the fourth book in a series that also features rings, bracelets and earrings-demonstrates the importance and variety of the remarkable Ghysels collection of ethnic jewelry.

The forms, colors and materials of these necklaces are astonishing, while the modernity of some pieces in the collection has not escaped the notice of contemporary jewelry designers.
It is rare for jewelry to have a solely aesthetic purpose, for above all it is anchored in the social, religious and political contexts that lend it meaning. Throughout this book, the author sets out to untangle the intricacies of the way necklaces are used and what they signify. She describes the materials and draws attention to the originality of the craftsmen, who have contributed to the enrichment of a cultural heritage that has long been under threat and which this collection is helping to preserve. The book includes over 300 superb photographs, a glossary, an index, maps and a general bibliography.

Bejeweled : Great Designers, Celebrity Style (Hardcover)
by Penny Proddow, Marion Fasel
The jewelers to the stars are featured in Penny Proddow and Marion Fasel's Bejeweled: Great Designers, Celebrity Style. Peggy Guggenheim in mobile-like Calder earrings; Marlene Dietrich in emeralds and diamonds by Trabert & Hoeffer-Mauboussin; the Duchess of Windsor in Belperron's chalcedony, sapphire and diamond "suite"; Cher in Bulgari's Star Spangled Banner collection; Courtney Love in diamonds by Hafner; and numerous other glitterati and their gems appear in this study in high-profile, top-dollar frivolity. Some of the pieces by Fouquet, Lalique, Flato and a few others are true landmarks. Fashionistas and the Hollywood set will enjoy this tour of some 20th-century streets actually paved with gold.

by Jinks McGrath The author includes a wide variety of jewelry making techniques primarily dealing with metalsmithing. Full color pictures wonderfully illustrate each section. Simple wire projects, such as making jump rings to more advanced techniques such as inlaying are shown and described with enough detail to understand, but not overwhelm the reader. I'd recommend this book for the beginner who wants to learn about jewelry making, or for those who just want to learn more about jewelry making. Also included is a Themes section of artistic jewelry that will inspire you.
